Polyamide and polyester: features, similarities and differences

Polyamide and polyester: features, similarities and differences

In the modern world, we are increasingly facing the concept of “synthetics”. But at the same time, we absolutely do not think that this is for the “miracle” and what is its advantages. Today, most synthetic things are made of polyester and polyamide. The difference between them lies in the fact that these polymers are used in their production. Consider in more detail these two material so that when choosing one or another thing to have an idea of the composition of the tissue, its properties and quality.

Polyamide

This is a fiber synthetic origin, which has a number of explicit advantages. These include the following “pros”:

  • Material has “breathable” properties+
  • Has high strength+
  • It does not mind, he is terrible frequent “gears”+
  • quickly dries out+
  • long retains a presentable view+
  • does not burn+
  • It has high hygienicity (almost 10 times higher than polyester)+
  • Pleasant+
  • Pollution with material is easily removed.

Undoubtedly, things made of polyamide are inherent in some drawbacks. For example, they are not sufficiently retaining heat and have the ability to strongly electrify. In addition to tissues for outerwear, from this material are made by all beautiful ladies stockings and hair ribbons. Especially relevant polyamide in the summer – it is well “breathing” and has high resistance to the effects of sunlight.

Note that when washing things, the polyamide is present, it is not necessary to use high water temperature (recommended not higher than 30 degrees).

Polyester

Polyester is considered one of the popular artificial fibers. It has different names worldwide, and it is widely used in modern light industry. In the manufacture of tissue polyester can be used completely (100%) or partly (from 35%). For example, when adding (40-50%) of this fiber to natural, the wear resistance of the tissue increases.

This synthetic fiber has undoubted advantages:

  • sufficient strength and durability+
  • wear resistance+
  • Almost no thing+
  • Comfortable weight+
  • things do not require special care+
  • affordable price.

Note that polyester has high hygroscopicity, that is, instantly absorbs moisture. At the same time, if with exercise on you, clothes, which contains polyester, moisture quickly “departs” from the body and does not give too much discomfort.

Comparative characteristics

As noted above, the main difference between polyamide and polyester lies in polymers that are used in the production of synthetic. Polyamide is made of organic materials (it is about plastic), and polyester is obtained by melt polyethylene terephthalate.

Consequently, their main differences – in appearance, thickness and appointment. The similarity is that both material are perfectly preserved form, almost do not impair and resistant to the effects of light. However, polyamide has a higher cost in comparison with the polyester.

Polyamide fabrics are perfectly suitable for tailoring of outerwear. The varieties of this fiber include nylon, kapron and bolon tissue. For example, a jacket made of one hundred percent nylon, light and perfectly protects against adverse weather conditions. Cloaks and down jackets, which contains polyamide, differ in long “sock” and resistance to moisture.

Also from this material make modified fibers, which, according to their hygienic properties, are very close to cotton. We are talking about Megalon and Trubala – fibers imitating natural silk. In the “pure” form data materials are not used. They are used in textile production only in combination with other fibers, including with natural.

Polyester, in most cases, used in the manufacture of linings when sewing the outerwear, underwear and curtains. Note that modern artificial fabric can have air-permeable properties similarly to cotton. Sometimes the synthetics cannot be distinguished from natural fabric.

Summing up the properties of polyamide and polyester, it is safe to say that the fibers are largely similar. But the polyamide has a higher strength and its hygienic properties are much higher than that of polyester. At the same time, things, which contains polyamide, are more expensive. In modern light industry, mixing various fibers is widely practiced.

Synthesis of fibers

As a result of the combination of polyester and polyamide, elastic, wear-resistant fabrics are obtained, preserving a presentable view for a long time. This synthesis is optimal for the manufacture of female underwear. “Diluted” polyester does not so much absorbs moisture and is almost not able to electrify.

Polyester is also perfectly combined with Elastane (soft film). Such “mixing” is widely used to create hosiery products, clothing for sports, gloves and fitting knitwear. Thanks to the fibers of the elastan, the material becomes “breathable” and has a good “cracker”. However, things made by such synthesis can burn and yellowed under the influence of direct sunlight.

The combination of cotton with polyester (no more than 35% of the latter) make tissue more durable. Also, cotton clothing with the addition of synthetic fibers is not stretched and does not fade in the sun.

It is the opinion that synthetic tissues are able to cause allergic reactions. However, this opinion is erroneous. The only thing that can carry clothes, which contains synthetic fibers (polyamide / polyester), is a slight feeling of discomfort when contacting skin in individual cases.
