A bit of history

Tuvinian Shepherd is a shepherd aboriginal dog, which is the result of a centuries-old selection. Often you can hear the folk name of the breed, such as the Tuvinian watchman, which also completely displays the main functions of this strong and reliable dog. The origin of rocks is associated with the active development of observation, characteristic of the peoples of Tibet, Mongolia, Tuva and Altai.

Initially numerous herds of Yakov protected Tibetan mastiffs and aboriginal dog shepherds – Mongol Shepherds. It is as a result of their crossing and a new breed appeared.

Tuvinskaya Shepherd was extremely disciplined by a dog and absorbed all the best security-guard qualities of their progenitors. She coped perfectly with livestock livestock, guarded private houses from the attacks of wild animals and performed as a reliable accompanying during long trips and on the hunt.

However, with the entry of Tuva to the composition of the Soviet state, the demand for this breed decreased, and consequently, the development of the breed sharply slowed down. This is due to the ban on the nomadicness of indigenous peoples and promoting the settled lifestyle. As a result, by 1959, the purebred individuals remained critically small, and those that were preserved were castrated.

The revival of the Tuvinian shepherd as an independent breed began to occur only in the early 2000s with the support of the regional authorities of the Tyva and with the involvement of state grants. As a selection material seven best individuals were selected, which were used to restore the breed. Currently, there are two tribal nursery in the republic, whose employees make every effort to preserve this beautiful and intelligent shepherd, the impact of centuries serving people.

However, despite the enthusiasm of dog breeders, The total number of Tuvinian shepherds is at a critical mark and barely exceeds 100 individuals. This is connected with the non-recognition of the breed. An internationally cynological organization that his authority could well contribute to its promotion.
