Kalyuki features and game on it

About the old Russian brass musical instrument called “Kalyuk” (as well as the “barley”, “distillation” or “herbal twin”) specialists engaged in the issues of traditional Russian culture, found out only at the end of the XX century. But now many folk groups have adopted this musical instrument on their “weapons”, so hope for its large-scale popularization and revival is available. But once the kalyuka owned hardly all the men of the countryside – was so popular in Russia.

Description

The name “Kalyuka” This musical instrument is obliged to the plant, from the dried stem whose one was usually made – the tattar of the spiny. The word “prickly” and has become decisive for the people’s name this look at and on the device by a leaky flute. It was the flute with the addition of the word “Opertonova” and began to call this ancient Russian musical instrument in scientific musical circles.

By the way, this simple duddy was considered an exceptionally male musical instrument.

And although the tattar of the prickly provides a tool for a ringing and decent sound, good kalyuki learned to do from dried umbrella plants (mother-in-law, Borshevik, buckwheat and some others). It is said that on the sound of the tool you can determine the material of its manufacture. This is possible only for experienced performers on Kalyuk, which, unfortunately, in our time, you can only find in some regions of Russia.

Externally is a hollow tube with three holes:

  • Input (called “top”), into which the musician blows the air – is located with a thicker cutting tube+
  • Output (called “Lower”), which is from the other end of the tube and having a smaller cut diameter+
  • Whistle (called “Dulis”) located in the side surface near the upper hole.

There are no other holes on this musical instrument. In the manufacture of kalyuchi, the length of the tube is performed under an individual artist. Finished tools in our time there are such dimensions in length:

  • For children – from 25 to 35 cm+
  • For adult musicians – from 45 to 88 cm.

Choosing a kalyuk for your own needs with such a calculation of its length so that you can easily clamp the bottom hole of the index finger of the right hand.

The diameter of the tube can be different – from 15 to 25 cm. The inner empty cavity is escranted from the entrance to the outlet (this is how any plant grows: downstairs the barrel is wide, upstairs – significantly). The diameter of the upper hole should be more output:

  • The diameter of the upper hole – not less than 20-23 mm+
  • The diameter of the outlet – no more than 14 mm.

Dulce (a small slot to sound output) has an angle of a slice within 45 °, and the diameter of the hole is also selected under the individual parameter (evaluated by the tool).

Varieties

Types of Kalyuki, except for classification in size (children’s, adults), differ also by the material of the manufacture, on which their term depends.

  1. Puddy – Disposable models of heaven from fresh cut stems of grassy plants. They were usually done for one-time use, after which they simply discarded.
  2. Spiny – these are the tools that their Tatarn was performed. Such products are especially valued, and kept long. True, the use of them was quite rare – on important occasion and big holidays. It was believed that the ownership of such a tool was only available to wealthy families.
  3. Lykov – the most difficult on the manufacture of a pipe, which not every craftsman could make. It was necessary from the thin layer of the Yves or lime bark to turn the wide strip around the finger. But such a product did not have slits and holes for an uncontrolled air outlet, which could be observed in disposable duffers.

And also distinguish kalyuki low, medium and high sound register, which makes it possible to create ensembles. On some products the number of holes bring to the trunk to four (2-4).

Herbal pipes from above need to be “seal” with a sticky composition to prevent uncontrolled air outlet through the permeable shell.

How to play?

To obtain sounds on Kalyuk, it is necessary to blow air into the inlet and learn how to adjust the air outlet from the lower hole. Due to the energy of the intake air and skillful cover and opening of the exit get the necessary sound. The air at the entrance is adjusted using the lips and its own language of the artist (for the absence of a special tongue device present by the perfect models Flute).

The tool is kept vertically, the right hand is located at the bottom hole, and the left – in the middle of the tube. Sounds are obtained on a natural scatter, and their timbre – rather sharp – can be attributed, rather, to rhythmic, rather than melodic nature.
